Edmond was the son of John David Pennington and Nancy Jane Harris.  He married Lucinda Brown, daughter of Hiram Brown and Mary Allison, on 27 Jan 1847 in White County, Tennessee.  They had nine children between 1848 and 1875.

Edmond first enlisted in Company A, 5th Tennessee Cavalry, USA on 4 Aug 1862 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee. He served as a Private and a Corporal during this period. He was absent from his unit starting on 31 Oct 1863 recruiting for the 1st Tennessee Mounted Infantry, USA. He recruited several men from Mine Lick Creek area of Putnam County. He was discharged from Company A of the 5th Tennessee Cavalry on 21 Jan 1864 to take a commission as a 1st Lieutenant with Company B of the 1st Tennessee Mounted Infantry. The company he had been recruiting for. He was promoted to Captain on 12 Mar 1864 and commanded the Company for the duration of his service.

Many scores were settled immediately following the war.  Edmond was allegedly involved in at least one of these. He was indicted, along with others, for first degree murder of Andrew Jackson Maxwell.  As far as we can determine, he was never convicted. You can read a more detailed account on the New Stories Tab, "The Killing of Andrew Jackson Maxwell".

Edmond applied for and received an invalid pension on 8 Dec 1880. After his death, his widow applied for and received a widow's pension on 23 Mar 1900.

Both Edmond and Lucinda are buried in the Ava Cemetery in Ava, Douglas County, Missouri.
