Robert Lindsey Gentry

Robert was the son of Silas Whitley Gentry and Jane H. Lindsey. He married three times. First to Irena Asenath Allison, daughter of Joseph "Mine Lick" Allison and Asenath Stone on 22 Apr 1855 in Putnam County, Tennessee. Robert and Irena had seven kids from 1856 to 1865. Irena died on 14 May 1866 leaving Robert with seven kids from ages 1 to 11. Five months later, on 7 Oct 1866, Robert married Jane Bryant/Briant. Jane was the daughter of John Briant and Eglantine S. Yeager. Robert and Jane had four children from 1868-1873. Robert's 3rd and final wife was Lucinda S. Cole whom he married in approximately 1887. We have not identified Lucinda's parents. We believe that Robert and Lucinda has no children.

Robert enlisted on 22 Jan 1864 at Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee. He was listed as present on all company muster rolls except in the Nov and Dec rolls where he was listed as "sick at home" since 27 Nov 1864. No other noteworthy events were recorded in his service record. He was mustered out on 14 Apr 1865.

I can find no evidence of Robert or his widow applying for any pensions based on his Civil War service.

Robert and Lucinda are the Joe Bob Allison Cemetery near the Ensor Bottom of Putnam County, Tennessee. We do not know where his first two wives are buried but believe they are somewhere local - Putnam County, Tennessee.
