Reminiscing
Eclipse of 2017
On Monday, August 21, 2017, friends and family of Joseph Roberts descendants were blessed with one of God’s great displays of His design and creation in an eclipse of the sun. To add an additional treat, Roberts Switch was in the relatively thin ribbon of “path of totality” (around 70 miles wide in the U.S. from Oregon to South Carolina,) in that we would have two minutes and forty seconds where the moon completely blocks the sun from view. As the media reported: This celestial event is a solar eclipse in which the moon passes between the sun and Earth and blocks all or part of the sun. The last time the contiguous U.S. saw a total eclipse was in 1979, and the next one for our area is set for 22 August 2044. Thus, a big celebration was planned at the Clavis Barn for our family and friends. And wow… what a great time we had.
As with most all our events we planned a potluck meal, and even added special displays designed and built by Cousin Gail Woodard. We had over 100 people share in the event… even a father and daughter who were driving along I-40 and pulled off the interstate to watch God’s display and joined us.
To top off this great display from our Creator… just as the moon completely covered the sun’s tenuous atmosphere (the corona) the air was filled with musical praise for Him through the song “How Great Thou Art”:
Oh Lord, my God When I, in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Many hearts were touched and some tears flowed. And, for a few minutes, we remembered who we are, and who HE is!
